So named for Sukhumvit Rd. that runs diagonally through its centre. For our purposes we define Sukhumvit as the area from the railroad/expressway on the west, along New Phetburi Rd. on the north to Ekkamai Rd. (Sukhumvit 63) on the east with Rama IV Rd. marking the southern border.

As the largest area in Bangkok there are naturally more hotels, restaurants and so on. That said, Sukhumvit also has quite a number of residential buildings (apartments and condominiums) which have attracted a number of restaurants, shops and pubs that make it a very popular area.

Hotels in this area are primarily 3-5 star properties. In addition to the wide selection of hotels, the Sukhumvit area now has quite a few serviced apartments that are particularly well suited for long staying guests whether they be on business, leisure and/or medical visits. And with the BTS running along Sukhumvit Rd. most hotels are within a short walk to a BTS station making it an ideal location from which to explore Bangkok.
